Piano-and-biosphere single "Primordial" to be released January 29

Good news, everyone! “Primordial”, my new piano-and-biosphere single, will be released Friday, January 29.

I’m excited to reveal the cover art by the incredible Jeff Powers, illustrator. Pause a moment to take it in. I’m thrilled with how it turned out. 

Primordial is one track in what will be a full album of piano-and-biosphere music recorded on Haida Gwaii in 2021.

I’ve made hours of field recordings here since 2018. You’ll hear clips of some of the best of those recordings in the album. 

The sounds of Haida Gwaii’s natural environment are musical and evocative – ocean, forests, birds, weather, and humans. I’ve composed original piano music to work in tandem with that soundscape.

This has been an extremely DIY project, but it takes a literal village. I’m grateful to Haida Gwaii Radio Society for lending me recording equipment. 

I would also like to express gratitude to the Haida Nation, on whose traditional and unceded territory my studio sits. I’m really fortunate to be able to live here.

What’s next? Aside from the cover art, I have one more surprise collaboration to share before Jan 29 and, well, we will have to wait for that.
