Bagel Bar for April 23, 2022: Philip Glass marathon

🥯 This week in bagels 🥯

TL;DR: Bagel Bar is back this Sat, 11-2 at the QC Farmers’ Market. See you there if you’ve avoided the covid!

During today’s baking I did a Philip Glass marathon. I got to listen to this double-length album of piano etudes – the maximum dose of 20 – played exceptionally well by Vancouver-based Leslie Dala. Thank you for the music! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

You can find this satisfying listen on Bandcamp via Redshift. My fave is Etude 16. There’s something perfect about those three rising chords…

I don’t usually choose music to stream based on its function (playlists for studying, sleeping, performing surgery, having a coffee with a new coworker, etc.) But the perpetual motion of this album happened to be a good match for the repetitive actions of kneading and shaping 100+ bagels. I sometimes crave more periods of rest, or silence, from Philip Glass’ music, but this was a really nice experience.

This week’s bagel menu:

- sesame seed

- poppy seed

- everything

- spruce tip salt

- Dog bagels too

(At David Archer, composer, etc., the etc. now includes bagels.) Usually I just post these journal-style updates to Facebook and Instagram, but why shouldn’t I build up some of that delicious bagel SEO? Anyway, have yourselves a good weekend. Make sure you find you and your bagels some nice music to listen to.
